As an admitted Black Friday shop-a-holic, I was always so amused by the determination of Black Friday shoppers and found it hysterically funny to watch the behavior of people on this eventful day. Consumers literally tripping over each other to get to a bargain, made me want to do something that would lighten the mood. I resolutely went in search of a Black Friday t-shirt to wear on my outing on Black Friday, but to my dismay, I only found one t-shirt and the price was ridiculously high. I couldn’t stop thinking about what I could do on my own Black Friday informational web site that would reflect Black Friday, while at the same time bring a smile to the lips of all the die-hard Black Friday shoppers and bring some true joy to the holiday frenzy. With many online companies boasting a host of information about sales on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, I wanted to do more than help shoppers plan for the day. It was obvious that every good bargain shopper knows that Black Friday is the best day of the year to get rock bottom prices, so why not unite all of the committed shoppers by providing something original, something that made everyone laugh. That way, hordes of bargain hunters traipsing through the stores would then be able to recognize each other immediately, proudly wearing gear that expressed the true feelings of obsessive shoppers.Today, as the only Black Friday Gear web site, I present apparel strictly for Black Friday, and it’s solely for fanatical shoppers. For those with friends or family members who love to shop, the gear adds a hilarious twist to the holiday season and is the perfect gift for the admittedly obsessed shopper. With full graphics on the back, a logo on the front and cartoon characters that make you smile, I finally found a way to add something very special and genuinely amusing to the start of the holiday season.
What items are going to be the hottest items for sale on the day after Thanksgiving? As odd as it may sound, the Snuggie has sold over 4 million items so far. If you don’t know anyone who has purchased one already, then maybe they’d like one. This is great for a senior, disabled person, or even someone who has recently found out they are ill.Electronics are always a fabulous gift. The new tiny laptops are going to be cheap, which automatically makes it a huge seller. Beware, however, as some may not offer enough RAM to boot quickly or run Windows efficiently. These are a perfect gift for a teen or someone just entering college. The price is going to be low enough that it won’t break your budget.Toys are an often sought after item. With Playskool offering coupons on a few of their toys, these can be coupled with day after Thanksgiving sale items to give you a super savings. Drug stores can offer discounts on stocking stuffers and candy, which will be needed during the holiday season also. Be on the lookout for discounts on gingerbread house kits as well. You can never go wrong by buying jewelry for the special woman in your life. You can get a great deal from department stores, as well as specialty jewelry stores. Mart stores will also have a great selection if you are strapped for cash this year. Avoid buying gold, as prices are currently skyrocketing. This means that the consumer will have to pay for it. Stick to platinum or silver as a setting for pearls or gemstones. This will still put a smile on her face.
It’s Thanksgiving Day and a newspaper arrives at your house. There isn’t much by way of actual news, but it’s chock full of advertisements from various local shops. You spend hours scouring the ads and making shopping lists and notes about which stores you should hit first, how much time you are allotted at each store before you must leave to get to the best deal at the next store. Then you must decide how early you should wake up. The first store you picked opens at 5am. Should you wake up at 3:00 so you’re in line by 3:30 or 4:00?There you are – 4:00 a.m. in the cold parking lot of your local big box store so you can be one of the first in line to get the must have bargain at their day after thanksgiving sale. Cold, tired and being pushed and shoved around by 100’s of other shoppers, is it really worth it?Most times, stores plan on hundreds of items being in stock for the big sale of the year. Even if you don’t make it to the store right as the doors open, there will still be that item available 2 hours later when you do finally manage to get to the store. If there is an item that you MUST have and it’s a particularly fabulous deal, then by all means you should wake before the crack of dawn and arrive to make this purchase. If it’s an item that you really want, but can live without, then sleep that extra hour or two and arrive in time to get the last few on the shelves. Is it really worth the lack of sleep to save an extra $20?
After all is said and done, now what? You have endless hours of gift wrapping and card writing and then you have to decorate, etc. Have you thought about preparations for next years shopping? Why should you, it’s a whole year away. Here’s why:It is said that hindsight is 20/20. Have you learned anything from this most recent shopping trip? Maybe your alarm batteries ran out during the night and you want to remember that for next year. Next time you want to set your alarm AND your cell phone alarm to insure you’re awake in time to hit the sales in time. Maybe you forgot something like your lip gloss and want to remember it for next time. And maybe you learned something during this trip that you want to remember for years to come. This is the time to make a list so you can refer back to it next year.Probably the best thing you can do is to save money. Start on December 1st to start a savings account or even just get a jar, small piggy bank or an envelope shoved under your mattress. Stash away about $10 per paycheck. If you get paid twice a month, that’s roughly $260 for next years’ shopping trip! Wouldn’t it be nice to have that extra money?By planning ahead for next years’ shopping, you can be better prepared for the sales both mentally and financially. You’ll rest easier on the eve of Black Friday by knowing that you have everything under control. This will make your next Black Friday even better than this year!
As you sift through your ads and make your shopping list, you might also want to consider the rebates. Sometimes it’s in fine print, but other times it’ll be bold, depending on what angle the retailer is headed for. For example, the price may be advertised as $5 and in fine print it’ll say “after $20 rebate”. Or, it may say in smaller print that the offer is $15, but get a rebate check for $5 or cash back upon purchase or even a gift card for $5 or so.Pay attention to these as they may make you decide to purchase the item elsewhere or not to purchase the item at all. If you pay with a credit card, a rebate may be just the right thing for you. Why? You make the purchase now and the bill comes due in December or January. By that point, your rebate check will have arrived and you can use the monies to make your first payment! Perfect! One bad thing about the rebate check coming in the mail is that you must front the money at the time of purchase. It’s great to get a digital camera for only $40, but if you have to pay $120 now, then is it worth it? It is if you won’t miss that money. A lot of us will have a struggle to make the initial purchase, so it’s not a bargain if you won’t be able to make your mortgage payment.Be careful of hidden price fluctuations. The stores make the offer sound great to get you in the door, so pay attention to what else they have to offer you.
